Nailing Learner Feedback
Nailing Learner Feedback
How many tutors do you know who believe positive only feedback is the way to motivate learners? It can be a tightrope with a difficult learner – desperation to break through, pressure to create results against an often-challenging back story, and a staff member who is naturally caring.
“When you focus only on strengths, you lull people into believing there are no areas in which they need to improve.”
Many teaching staff find it really tough to tell learners what they really think of the quality and quantity of their work. And when we are talking about needing to achieve qualifications or End Point Assessment that does not help the learner. It is also one of the key drivers behind staff stress and burnout – by not driving the learner to do more they take more and more on themselves; endless 1-1 tutoring sessions, increased observation, and questioning to keep the learner on track.

What can we do to help?
Two things:
Providing a framework to support the delivery of compassionate robust feedback designed to improve learner performance
Psychometric assessment of the staff member to understand the reasons why they struggle in this area, and then strategies to help them improve.
All wrapped up in one half day training session.
